MICHELLE TAN LOOKBOOK

A PROJECT THAT BRINGS A FRESH PERSPECTIVE.

We have teamed up with two designers to showcase the CHARLES & KEITH collection alongside their outstanding creations that express their unique style personalities and compelling fashion identities.

BETWEEN PRACTICALITY AND DESIRE

Designer Michelle Tan’s collection, ‘The Colour Brawl’, features soft, drapey fabrics alongside chunkier knits in a palette of muted jewel tones. To introduce structure to her flowy garments, more defined shapes were chosen for the accessories — the clean lines of the Sybill geometric bag and Adelie hobo bag highlighted the dynamism of the designs. Keeping Michelle’s collection the focal point of these looks, neutral-hued finishes were selected as well.

“WHEN PEOPLE SEE GARMENTS THEY IMMEDIATELY THINK OF HOW IT CAN RELATE TO THEM,” MICHELLE TAN MUSES.

In contemplating the relationship between people and the spaces they occupy, the designer studied interior spaces and the open environment. Translating these observations into her work, she experimented with knitted gradients, colour combinations and hand-drawn prints on jersey to ultimately produce ‘The Colour Brawl’.

Recalling that she has enjoyed creating art since her childhood days, Michelle was drawn to fashion because of its instant interaction with people.

“[Fashion] has the ability to make you feel more powerful, more protected or evoke any feeling you wish to have at that very moment,” she explains.

It is the power of crafting a persona that she is interested in exploring further and working towards.

And what else is she working on now? Her final collection, as part of her Master’s programme, is well underway.

“The main focus of this collection would be the extension of knitting techniques to better convey colour and texture, as well as to develop silhouettes that I did not have the opportunity to explore during my Bachelor’s project.” The collection is currently a work in progress.
